Colmena – Book Presentation and Artist Talk

What happens to a young artist’s body when she must choose between submitting to the old predators of the institutional art world to achieve success, or opting for the abyss of silence, exile, and purity? *Colmena* (Hive) is more than a novel or a fragmented memoir; it is a resounding affective map. It is an uncensored chronicle of a young creator’s journey and resistance amidst the ferment of Mexico in the early 2000s—a life swept up in clandestine parties, artist collectives, harassment by the phallocentric elite within cultural power structures, and boundless, border-crossing loves.

Join us on December 3, 2026, for the presentation of the book *Colmena*, featuring the author, Judith Pedroza.

The curiosity of Judith Pedroza (Mexico City) has led her to engage in various experimental and creative processes. Throughout her training, she closely observed the practices of her contemporaries, accompanying them as a witness and observer. She sought to understand where an artistic or writing process begins—at what point it becomes worth extending—and how it might shift other sensibilities related to knowledge, the body, or history, ultimately intertwining with other narratives or affects. In this work, movement, intersections, and exchanges served as the primary materials.

She earned a Master’s degree in Critical and Visual Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Her work encompasses curatorial texts, translation, and essays on art. She has organized various projects and participated in independent artistic exchanges across Mexico City, Tijuana, San Diego (CA), and Chicago.
