The Dia de la Mujer Exhibition is a space dedicated to the full manifestation of women artists. We celebrate and embrace different perspectives and approaches. We hope that in the creation of the artworks for this exhibit, participating artists find unique ways to express themselves, but also engage and inspire individuals to raise their voices so that they can be heard. We believe in the importance of expression in any form that it might take, whether it deals with political, cultural, personal, sexual or gender issues. This is the 11th edition of this exhibit that now is a tradition and the most important cultural event in San Ysidro. As part of this year´s exhibit we have had some events including a dance performance, a zine fest, artist talk and SD Soundings music fest.
SD Soundings (formerly known as Springfest) is an annual festival wholly curated by and highlighting new work from the UC San Diego Department of Music–the premier center on the West Coast for experimental and new music. SD Soundings is where emerging composers, performers and sound explorers preview their most dangerous ideas, initiate new collaborations and launch daring projects. Nowhere else in San Diego do chamber sounds, computer music, noise, sound installation, free improvisation and performance art all collide. And just in time for a much-needed seasonal ear-cleaning… Sound’s good for you, right?
SD Soundings is supported by the UC San Diego Department of Music, the Dean of Arts and Humanities, and the Graduate Student Association.
