Join this collaborative art-making workshop between community members and artists from The Old Globe San Diego, turning stories into theatre and developing artists and new work.
This program has a process of 8 to 10 weeks (depending on the piece). A professional works with community members who wish to participate to create a play and participate in it if they wish, as part of the AXIS plaza series, The Old Globe’s Arts Engagement Department will hold this event to announce the return of Day of the Dead Celebration.
Playwright Crystal Mercado will lead the first sessions for the realization of the dramatic text. After that, Valeria Vega, a binational artist, teaching artist, producer and cultural promoter, will take the lead in the rehearsals as the director of the staging.

The mission of Arts Engagement at The Old Globe is to make theater matter to more people and take theater beyond the stage, strengthening connections between our neighbors and our institution, creating new community ties and deepening existing ones. The Globe’s Arts Engagement Department was created to share with individuals and families the opportunity to experience theater firsthand. Our work aims to open new doors to creativity through theater-based activities that encourage direct participation in artistic creation. The Arts Engagement team strives to make the Globe truly accessible to its neighbors through a variety of programs that are innovative, participatory, and multi-generational.

La dramaturga Crystal Mercado dirigirá las primeras sesiones para la realización del texto dramático. Posteriormente, Valeria Vega, artista binacional, artista docente, productora y promotora cultural, tomará la iniciativa en los ensayos como directora de la puesta en escena.
