Venue Information:
El Salon is a historial building standing at the heart of San Ysidro. Being the first ever church structure built in the 1900s, the church was left behind as a sole facade. Under Teddy Cruz’s leadership, Casa Familiar constructed a black box style venue over the original structural facade, naming it El Salon. The theatre officially opened on March 2020. It now stands as the key building in Living Rooms at the Border.
Our theatre is complimented by:
- Bleacher style seating capturing the essence of a theatre performance arts space. Equipped with 66 elevated seats. Its capacity is 106.
- El Salon includes a catwalk, a private tech booth, projector with projector screen, curtains, and state of the art stage lighting + sound production.
- Our natural light system is adorned by windows on each side of its structure. Each window powered by mechanical curtains that secure a total blackout, perfect for for matinee showings.
- We have an underground dressing / green room equipped with 10 make-up stations that are accessible from the theatre’s back entrance.
Residencies:
Upon its re-opening in June 2021, after the covid-19 lockdown, El Salon began to host theatre residencies, expanding a variety of plays, concerts, and presentations for the community of San Ysidro.
