-Coding background is not required. Only an open mind to learn a new language.
-Availability and commitment to attend both sessions of the workshop
-Previous experience in art, design, and traditional drawing techniques is a bonus (sketching, illustration, watercolor, etc.).

About the artist:
Juan Manuel Escalante is a designer and an artist working with computer code, modular synthesizers, and analog drawings. His work has been shown internationally and featured in major festivals and exhibitions, including Ars Electronica, Athens Digital Arts, OFFF, Mutek, Currents New Media, Binario, Ceremonia, amongst others. He was a member of the National System of Art Creators (National Endowment for the Arts, MX) and received the Corwin Award (1st prize) for Electronic-Acoustic Composition in 2016. He has taught creative programming at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and various higher education institutions in Mexico, including the graduate program in Architecture (UNAM), where he founded and directed its Media Lab for eight years. He holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts & Technology (UCSB) and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Visual Arts at California State University, Fullerton.

Como parte de la beca emitida por el programa «Far South Border North», Juan Escalante, utiliza el arte electrónico para abordar la brecha digital a través de su trabajo y campaña de justicia social conocida como «Generative Border Notations».

Ha impartido clases de programación creativa en la Universidad de California Santa Bárbara ( UCSB) y diversas instituciones de educación superior en México, incluyendo la Licenciatura en Arquitectura (UNAM), donde fundó y dirigió su Media Lab durante ocho años. Tiene un doctorado. en Media Arts & Technology (UCSB) y actualmente es profesor asistente en el Departamento de Artes Visuales de la Universidad Estatal de California, Fullerton.
