Artistas Fronterizas- cerrando la división con puentes de canción (Border Artists, closing the divide with bridges of song).
After touring this past summer, this is our homecoming concert… back on the Border!! Before ear buds, before iPods, CD’s, Cassettes, and record players, opera enthusiasts brought the opera home with them in the form of art songs. In these songs, composers set the poetry of their countrymen to music for voice and piano- creating beautiful, intimate music.
The goal of Artistas Fronterizas is to use the genre of art song recitals to create intimate, bilingual, visceral experiences in which we can access new audiences, weaving stories of border life with engaging music to initiate dialogues around coexistence and multiculturalism.
Soprano Anishka Lee-Skorepa and Mezzo-Soprano Eva Monroy Rocha from the San Diego/TIjuana area hit the road this past summer as «Artistas Fronterizas» (Border Artists). Celebrating the bridges made through the arts in a time of walls and immigration bans, they began their tour in Berkeley, CA before heading south to Mexico City and Puebla. For their performance at The Front in San Ysidro, they will be joined by Elena Galitskaya on piano.
